Stay under 90 days

• Visa: check if you need a visa for stays up to 90 days in the Schengen area
  • • visit the website of the German Embassy in your country and carefully read the “Visa” section (usually found under services)
• If you need a visa: apply for a Schengen visa at the German consulate next to you. Remember that the Schengen visa allows you to stay in the Schengen area for a maximum period of 90 days and cannot be extended.
• In order to apply for a Schengen visa, you’ll need an invitation from your host institute:
  • • • The invitation should contain the exact dates of your visit in Dresden, purpose of your visit, address of the inviting institution and your passport data (name, date of birth, passport number, until when your passport is valid; if there is some agreement about financing of your stay and health insurance, this also should be mentioned).
• Purchase the travel health insurance for the duration of your visit. Please also check your embassy website.
• Book accommodation. If you have difficulty finding one, please contact the secretariat of your host institute for assistance. You can find some options below at “Apartment Search”.
