DRESDEN-concept hosts reception for 200 new international scientists

On 12th April, DRESDEN-concept (DDc) hosted its second welcome reception for international scientists who started a research visit at a DDc partner institution within the last year. “Networking at all levels is one of our key strengths. What distinguishes Dresden from many other science locations is the close cooperation between all stakeholders and institutions. This includes the universities of applied sciences and non-university research institutions as well as research departments at companies and museums. In many ways, the City of Dresden is enhancing this tight network,” said Lord Mayor Dirk Hilbert – host of the international reception for scientists.

Prof. Hans Müller-Steinhagen, Chairman of the research alliance, and Ramona Nitzsche, representative of Santander Universities, were also present to greet the guests. Youmna Fouad – a PhD student at the Collaborative Research Centre “Invectivity. Constellations and Dynamics of Disparagement” and Marwa El-Sherbini scholarship recipient – talked about her experience of arriving in Dresden, how prejudices can be overcome, as well as the positive co-operation at the research institute. She illustrated to everyone that Dresden is a tolerant city and a great place to live and conduct research. Hans Müller-Steinhagen also added: “You will not regret your decision and will find Dresden to be a charming and cosmopolitan city to live in”.

The band Tumbacaria created a relaxed atmosphere and provided the musical backdrop for the networking time that followed. The reception for international scientists was organised by the DRESDEN-concept Welcome Center at TU Dresden with the support of the City of Dresden and Santander Universities.
