Do not let go – Human chain on 13th February

06.02.2020

Text of the appeal to the DRESDEN-concept partners:

Dear DRESDEN-concept Partners,

we are approaching the 75th anniversary of the bombing of the city of Dresden. As in the previous years, there will once again be a human chain to mark this terrible occasion and to send an urgent message into the world. At 6 pm on 13th February, people will join hands and connect in the city centre, as they form the links of the chain. In most cases with complete strangers, without regard to differences in age, sex, skin colour, origin or any other external features. The message of the human chain is as current as ever: it is a resounding ‘yes’ to humanity, tolerance, peacefulness and respectful co-existence. And through this message, the human chain is, at the same time, a clear ‘no‘ to disrespect, exclusion, racism and the misappropriation of the commemorations by radical forces. I very much hope that – as in the past – many members of our Science Alliance DRESDEN-concept will heed the call of the Lord Mayor of Dresden, the parliamentary groups of the City Council, representatives of business, science, culture, art, sports, trade unions, churches, the Jewish community, and other civil society actors and participate in the human chain.

The human chain event will start at 5pm on the Neumarkt, and the participants will close the human chain at 6pm, accompanied by the chimes of the church bells in the city centre.
