The Military History Museum of the German Armed Forces in Dresden is one of the most important history museums in Europe. The exhibitions focus on people and the question of the causes and consequences of war and violence. It sees itself as a forum for discourse on the role of war and the military in the past, present and future.

The permanent exhibition of the Military History Museum of the Bundeswehr in Dresden presents over 10,000 exhibits from 700 years of the history of violence, from the late Middle Ages to the present day, on 19,000 square meters. On the basis of modern military history, it not only presents the manifestations of state violence, but also examines the diverse forms of social violence and thus provides important building blocks for a cultural history of violence.

The Museum of Military History in Dresden thus differs significantly from conventional military exhibitions and collections. It sees itself not primarily as a museum of technical history, but as a historical museum with the aim of overcoming the opposition between everyday and political history and placing the individual person at the center of the exhibition.
