Dresden scientist Karl Leo receives European Inventor Award 2021
21.06.2021
Dresden physicist Prof. Karl Leo is honored with the European Inventor Award 2021 in the category “Lifetime Achievement” for his advances in organic semiconductors. The European Inventor Award is awarded annually by the European Patent Office (EPO). In the category “Lifetime Achievement” the long-term contribution and patented landmark inventions, which have had a major impact in the field of technology and society at large, are honored.
Leo’s pioneering work on organic semiconductors led to the development of the organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) now found for instance in the screens of half of the world’s smartphones.
Only recently, on the occasion of the 5th DDc lunch retreat, we had the pleasure to welcome Prof. Karl Leo together with Prof. Carsten Werner (Leibniz IPF) as key scientists to address “New insights from the interface between electronics and living nature”. The monthly DDc lunch retreats are a platform for selected scientists to present future-oriented topics.
