DRESDEN-concept Science Cruise 2023
31.07.2023
In July 2023, DRESDEN-concept once again organized what is probably the coolest networking event in the city for (young) scientists from DRESDEN-concept partner institutions: the science cruise on the Elbe. With a relaxed atmosphere, good music and the best view, the science cruise offered the exclusive opportunity to get into conversation beyond the institute boundaries and to make new (research) contacts.
Over 300 scientists were on board, 78 percent of them doctoral students and postdocs.
Scientists from the following DRESDEN-concept partner institutions took part:
Barkhausen Institut, German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE), DLR Institute for Software Methods for Product Virtualization, Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems IKTS, Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems IPMS, Fraunhofer Institute for Material and Beam Technology IWS, Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR), Dresden College of Music Carl Maria von Weber, HTWD – University of Applied Sciences, Archaeological Heritage Office in Saxony (LfA), Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW), Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IOER), Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden (IPF), Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG), Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems (MPI PKS), Senckenberg Natural History Collections Dresden, TUD Dresden University of Technology, UNU-FLORES and the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden.
The DDc scientists sailed across the Elbe River on the ship “August der Starke”. The musical Schooko-Duo of guitarist and saxophonist provided relaxed background music for networking with jazz and popular music. Executive Board members, representatives of the DRESDEN-concept Board and spokespersons of the Scientific Area Committees (SACs) were also present and got into conversation with the young scientists. In addition, some of the services in the DRESDEN-concept network were presented in more detail, including the DRESDEN-concept Welcome Centre at TU Dresden, support in research data management and the Campus4You Campus Card.
DRESDEN-concept would like to thank all passengers, the musicians, the photographer Fabian Catoni and the Sächsische Dampfschifffahrtgesellschaft for the successful trip, which possibly also led to one or the other foundation stone for a joint research project.
