Dresden welcomes international researchers
28.08.2024
Every year, many scientists from all over the world come to Dresden to live and work here.
On August 19, 2024, the DRESDEN-concept partners welcomed international researchers who have started their research stay at one of the DRESDEN-concept partner institutions within the last year for the 6th time in Dresden’s New Town Hall. The researchers are thus given the opportunity to make new contacts and also to get to know the city of Dresden better.
In addition to the Chairwoman of the Board of DRESDEN-concept e. V., Professor Ursula M. Staudinger, the international researchers were also warmly welcomed by Jan Pratzka, Mayor of Dresden. Both emphasised the importance of international scientists and their work for the Dresden region.
Musical accompaniment was provided by the JazzTrio Dresden.
In addition, two research group leaders in the DRESDEN-concept gave an insight into their start and career development in Dresden.
- Dr. Sandra Scharaw recently came to Dresden to study the cell biology of tissue ageing at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics. After completing her doctorate in Heidelberg, she initially moved to Sweden for 8 years until she came to Dresden in 2024 to take up her position here.
- Dr. Elias Barriga has been in Dresden for almost a year and is researching collective cell migration in living tissue at the Cluster of Excellence Physics of Life at the Technische Universität Dresden. He previously lived and worked in Chile, the UK and Portugal.
The reception for international scientists was organized by the DRESDEN-concept Welcome Center at TU Dresden with the support of the City of Dresden.
