The HLD conducts innovative materials research in high magnetic fields. Experiments in high fields offer distinctive opportunities for researchers to gain fundamental knowledge about the matter surrounding us because they allow us, in a unique way, to influence material properties in a targeted and above all controlled way. Research in highly magnetic fields often leads to ground-breaking discoveries that are of fundamental importance and often enables advances in the development of materials for applications.
Primarily, electronic properties of metallic, semiconducting, superconducting and magnetic materials are investigated. Special attention is given to exotic superconductors, strongly correlated electron systems, low-dimensional and frustrated spin systems and nanostructured materials.
