Excellence Strategy

TU Dresden is one of the eleven German Universities of Excellence, which will receive permanent funding as of 1st November 2019 within the framework of the Excellence Strategy of the Federal Government and the Länder.

With the renewal of the title of “University of Excellence” and the three Clusters of Excellence within the framework of the Excellence Strategy of the Federal Government and the Länder, TU Dresden belongs to the top ranking universities in Germany. Numerous DRESDEN-concept members were involved in the application process for the clusters and for the title of excellence. The excellence of TU Dresden also radiates through the entire scientific location, which means that all partners from the research alliance were stakeholders in the success of the university’s excellence strategy.

The advantage of an Excellence University for the location can be clearly outlined for the various target groups:

  • Students benefit from excellent lecturers and professors appointed to TU Dresden, who can establish contact to extramural research institutions for graduation theses. Through financing the Clusters of Excellence, additional researchers can be hired who are engaged in teaching. This also increases the ratio of lecturers to students.TUD Laboratories can be equipped with newer equipment with which students can become accustomed during internships. This helps to keep them up to date with the newest technology and can be a decisive factor in the hiring process, especially when entering professional life.
  • Doctoral Students gain access to the latest equipment and shared services within the network. New clusters create new job opportunities for highly qualified personnel. Joint graduate academies offers courses and workshops for successful publishing and project applications, as well as help with networking.
  • Scientists benefit from numerous services of TU Dresden in their daily working environment. The DRESDEN technology portal also informs you which new devices have been purchased at TU Dresden and thus saves time, money, and the unnecessary reading of instructions.
  • Economy and Residents of the City: A strong scientific landscape generates new jobs in the economy sector and within start-ups. Since many of these spin-offs will also be located in Dresden, new jobs will be created. With an increase in scientific innovation, there will be an increase in work opportunities.
