City registration

One of the most important steps after your arrival in Dresden is the registration at the city (Anmeldung). There is an obligation to register in Germany: Anyone who moves must inform the responsible residents‘ registration office (Bürgerbüro) of their new address within two weeks after moving (this period can currently be longer due to the pandemic).

The DRESDEN-concept Welcome Center can assist you with the registration (and also the re-registration and de-registration). We make appointments at the Bürgerbüro every week. If you would like us to register you in Dresden, all you need to do is bring the documents to our office on the date which can be found in the box below, or earlier. You don’t have to go with us to the residents‘ registration office (Bürgerbüro). When we get your documents back with the completed registration, you will receive an email from us. Please also check the spam folder.

International Bachelor and Master students are not our target group and can ask for help with the registration at the international office.

Documents lists:

To process the registration we need you to bring these documents to our office:

  • Filled out by you (and possibly by your spouse) registration form for each person separately (you can find the form and instructions for filling out below)
  • Filled out by your landlord confirmation from the landlord (you can find the form and instructions for filling out below)
  • Your passport/s (original) – in case you have several citizenships, all passports
  • If you are married – the original of your marriage certificate, with apostille (legalization) and translation into German by a sworn translator*
  • If you have children – the original of the birth certificate (if applicable – international birth certificate or translated by a sworn translator*)
  • Power of attorney (also from you and your spouse)

Please find out about our opening hours on the main page.

*If you need more information about translating the documents in Germany, please contact us.

If you are moving from one apartment to another within Germany, you have to re-register at the responsible residents‘ registration office (Bürgerbüro).

To process the re-registration we need you to bring these documents to our office:

  • Filled out by you (and possibly by your spouse) registration form for each person separately (you can find the form and instructions for filling out below)
  • Filled out by your landlord confirmation from the landlord (you can find the form below)
  • Your passport/s (original) – in case you have several citizenships, all passports
  • Residence permit card (if you have one)
  • Power of attorney (also from you and your spouse).

If you are moving from Germany, you have to de-register at the responsible residents‘ registration office (Bürgerbüro).

To process the de-registration we need you to bring these documents to our office:

  • Copy of your passport/s– in case you have several citizenships, all passports
  • Filled out by you (and possibly by your spouse) de-registration form for each person separately (you can find the form and instructions for filling out below).
  • Power of attorney (also from you and your spouse) in case you would like us to assist you with the de-registration.

You can also process the de-registration yourself. It is sufficient to send a letter with the necessary documents to the responsible residents‘ registration office (Bürgerbüro). In that case you don’t need to fill out and send the power of attorney.

Registration and
re-registration forms

Please download and fill out the registration/re-registration form. We have put together an annotated version that might help you. If you are not sure what to write in one or the other field, leave it blank. We can help you with that when you come to our office.

De-registration form

If you would like us to assist you with the
de-registration, please download and fill out the de-registration form. There is also an annotated version that might be helpful. If you are not sure what to write in one or the other field, leave it blank. We can help you with that when you come to our office.

Confirmation from the landlord

The landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) is a document issued by the landlord or hausmeister that proves that you have moved in to some particular address.

This form can look different for each landlord. You do not have to print out this form, the landlord or hausmeister will provide it to you after the rental agreement has been concluded.

Please do not fill out the form yourself!
